We have invited you to join us virtually each Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. during Catholic Social Teaching Month as we discussed each theme through the lens of an associated Catholic Charities program. See previously recorded trainings below.
Presentation Schedule
The Diocesan Social Action Office celebrated Catholic Social Teaching month, focusing on the first principle of Catholic social teaching: the life and dignity of the human person. The team discussed the importance of treating all human life as sacred and addressing systemic injustices, and introduced the treatment, prevention, and recovery programs at Catholic charities. The conversation ended with a discussion on the importance of respecting people's dignity and upholding it in their work, and the announcement of upcoming topics for the following weeks.

Eric Milkie, the director of emergency services for Catholic charities, shared insights on the services provided for the poor and vulnerable, including the operations of various hunger centers and shelters. The conversation ended with a discussion on the Helping Hands grant and the impact of Catholic Relief Services on Eric's life and work.

Shawn Whitmer led a discussion on Catholic social teaching, focusing on the theme of solidarity, and Ann Daniel shared her role in educating the community about the work of Catholic Charities and recruiting mentors and volunteers. Ann also discussed the challenges faced by refugees, the role of resettlement agencies in helping them assimilate into American culture, and the importance of mentorship in helping refugee families integrate into their new lives. The conversation ended with a reflection on the challenges faced by immigrants and the importance of solidarity and service.
