New Campers

At Camp Christopher, our goal is to provide an enjoyable, exciting summer experience that motivates our campers to approach life with courage and confidence.

Sending a child away to summer camp is a tremendous act of faith by parents. At Camp Christopher, we take that responsibility very seriously and maintain an environment that encourages safety and reinforces a positive self-image. We provide campers with opportunities for emotional and physical growth, encourage their natural abilities, and instill the benefits of group living.

Families that choose Camp Christopher care deeply about curiosity, inquiry, and creativity. They are attracted to a diverse community and an environment that creates and nurtures the habits of expansive thinking and complex problem-solving. Being a part of Camp Christopher means that spiritual life, thought, and exploration of the world infuses everything we do throughout the week.

We welcome new campers into our camp family and help them to develop social connections that become the foundation of the Camp Christopher experience. For younger children (ages 5-12), we offer eight weeks of Day Camp through which campers are empowered to begin accepting challenges, developing skills, and practicing forming and navigating friendships in a safe and relaxed environment. We established our Express Camp, a 3.5 day overnight stay, as an introductory camp experience designed to help your child bridge the gap between home and sleep-away camp.

On a practical level, the newly acquired camper skills of taking care of one’s self, organizing personal belongings, sharing cabin chores, and striving for better performance on the fields and courts empowers children in positive and discernible ways. At camp, a child can learn and excel at activities that once seemed unattainable to them. We want them to find comfort in going outside of their comfort zone.

Through this process, our campers develop self-confidence only learned by trying and succeeding at something previously thought impossible. Leading new activities to which a camper may have no previous exposure is as fulfilling for us to teach as it is for children to discover.

When you choose Camp Christopher, your child will become a part of something special—a fraternity to which they can always belong. Campers will feel the spirit and excitement of being in a place that quickly feels like a home away from home—a place to meet others who are similar in age and with whom they may become lifelong friends. We welcome new campers into the Camp Christopher family and help them to develop social connections that are the foundation of their camping experience.

To the new camper, we say this: Become a part of the legacy of Camp Christopher! Don’t be afraid to do something different this summer or something you have always wanted to try. You will return to the school in the fall satisfied with what you have accomplished, happy with your decisions, and motivated to put your new-found skills to the test. But most importantly, you will be excited about next summer!
