Philosophy

Camp Christopher offers an environment that supports the child’s growing need for independence.

We know that children need to learn more than reading, writing, and arithmetic to thrive in the world and become productive and successful adults.

Today more than ever, we need our youth to possess creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills, and resiliency to be prepared for 21st-century learning and working environments, and to become the community leaders who will fight for a just society.

Summer camp is, by design, able to arouse a child’s curiosity in the world around Him. Careful and thoughtful planning goes into creating differentiated environments that capture a child’s imagination and curiosity and help the child experience joy in their journey. We are proud to proclaim Camp Christopher ‘a place to grow in Nature, Community, and Spirit.’

Camp Christopher teaches new skills in developmentally appropriate ways. We structure learning to provide each child with opportunities to move about, investigate, inquire, experiment, and exchange ideas. Throughout each session, campers will be introduced to or continue to build skills in many different areas, including:

• Horseback riding
• Fishing
• High and low ropes course activities
• Arts & crafts
• Swimming and water sports

Activities like these provided in the natural environment that Camp Christopher offers, promote the attainment of higher-level skills in a unique setting and a memorable manner.

Camp is all about learning on your terms instead of having everything explained to you. When children discover things on their own, what they learn will stick with them so much longer.

Camp Christopher provides the perfect environment to expand learning to areas beyond the classroom and to ignite and nurture an enduring spirit of curiosity, creativity, and confidence. On the field and through sports, youth learn the importance of sportsmanship, fair play, and friendship.

We believe that it is the duty of every member of the Camp Christopher family to work toward and be a part of something great, which not only serves the individual’s interest but also those of our greater society. Camp Christopher is a vehicle to enrich your child’s emotional, spiritual, and physical life beyond the limits of the home or school environment. A stay at Camp Christopher gives campers remarkable practice in critical thinking skills so that the child can adapt to a wide variety of situations and contribute to the world in a meaningful way.

Camp Christopher is more than a fun vacation. Our environment provides the tools and resources to enable campers to develop themselves to their fullest capacity as competent, happy, productive individuals, family members, and contributors to a peaceful society.
