Catholic Charities Corporation Administrative Offices:
7911 Detroit AvenueThe Women’s Board of Catholic Charities Summit County is committed to living the teachings of Jesus Christ by sharing our labor, time and gifts with our brothers and sisters in need.
We accomplish this through:
We started as the Catholic Service League founded in 1920. We are now the Catholic Charities Corporation Summit County – Women’s Board. The name may have changed, but the work and dedication has continued throughout the years.
Initially the group was founded to meet basic needs of the poor, unemployed, homeless and orphans. The women independently provided support to other community services in the areas of employment, crisis management, counseling, education, and adoptions. In 1968 the group became affiliated with what is now Catholic Charities of Summit County. Through this affiliation we are able to provide support for the same community needs through programs offered by Catholic Charities. We raise funds for the programs and promote volunteer service within the programs themselves.
We started our Bags of Love event in 1970 and our first fundraising luncheon was in 1988. Both of these events continue to this day and have expanded allowing us to grow our ability to provide assistance to those in need in our community.
All adult women are invited to join the Women’s Board of Catholic Charities as we strive to make the lives of those less fortunate just a little bit easier. Meet and work with caring women from many different parishes in Summit County. The group strives to promote the agency programs through volunteer service and fundraising. The first meeting of the year will be at Blessed Trinity at 300 Tallmadge Avenue in Akron on Friday September 13th, at 9:30am. For more information click the "Join" tab at the side of the page.
