Express camp lasts approximately one-half week (starting either on Sunday afternoon and ending on Wednesday morning or starting on Wednesday afternoon and ending on Saturday morning). Campers ages 7-12 stay long enough to learn the rhythm of the activities at Camp Christopher and to begin making friendships that they can return to summer after summer.
Express Camp is also an excellent option for the camper who has a busy summer schedule. A hectic schedule of academic or sporting activities during the summer can make scheduling a full week at Camp Christopher difficult. The Express Camp program can still provide those campers the opportunity to return to a place they love and be a part of the fun!
We know that children learn from their peers and role models who surround them. At Camp Christopher, we facilitate this learning in a safe and healthy way. Living together day in and day out provides an immersion experience that cultivates in campers the ability to know one another on a deeper level, to share varied strengths, offer encouragement, lend support, and gain the tremendously valuable experience of living in and taking pride in the work of the group.
Supportive young adult role models who encourage positive values such as sportsmanship, collaboration, kindness, and harmonious co-existence supervise cabins. Cabins move throughout the day, led by the cabin counselor and department staff. From each cabin emerges a unique personality comprised of equal parts, strong friendship, laughter, and fun.
We take great care in making cabin assignments. We place children in cabins with others of similar age so that their interests may be complementary and can promote one another’s social development. Two to three counselors reside within each cabin to provide adequate support and supervision throughout the session.
Our counselors enjoy success when they have created an environment within the cabin that empowers campers to accept challenges, experience leadership, and forge friendships that last a lifetime.
Camp Christopher is a co-ed environment. We are proud of the comfortable family atmosphere we have created in which brothers and sisters may share in the camp experience together. Our cabins are assigned by gender, and throughout the day, campers remain with same-sex bunkmates as they follow their schedule. But Mass, evening activities, and special events typically involve all campers.
These mixed-gender activities allow both sexes to interact with one another while young adult role models provide the oversight to ensure positive and appropriate behavior from everyone.
