Ombudsman

Our Ombudsman serves as an independent, impartial and confidential advocate for persons with disabilities and their families in Medina County.

Through a partnership with The Society (formerly SHC/The Arc of Medina County) and the Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities, our Ombudsman works on a case-by-case basis to help individuals and families access services and supports, navigate systems and develop skills to become self-advocates.

Our Ombudsman provides support in many areas, including, but not limited to:

• Identifying service providers
• Obtaining an Individualized Education Program (IEP)
• Determining guardianship

The Medina County Ombudsman also helps resolve problems and concerns any individual or family may face by taking messages forward to the appropriate provider and acting on the individual's best behalf.

Stepping Stones Parenting Group

As part of the Ombudsman Program, the Stepping Stones Parenting Group supports Medina County parents and caregivers of children with developmental, sensory, and physical disabilities. Funded through the Ohio Department of Children & Youth and the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund, this free program provides practical tools, encouragement, and peer support to help families navigate challenges and support their child’s growth and development.

Participants who attend at least one session may also be eligible to apply for grant-funded resources that help meet basic family needs.
