Catholic Charities’ St. Augustine Hunger Center Expands to Strengthen Services and Remain Rooted in Tremont

Posted December 11, 2025

New location preserves neighborhood presence, deepens collaboration and integrates access to additional Catholic Charities programs

CLEVELAND – December 11, 2025 – Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland, is announcing the expansion and relocation of the St. Augustine Hunger Center to a larger, fully renovated site at 2345 West 14th Street, one block north of its current home in Tremont. The move keeps the hunger center in the neighborhood it has served for more than 50 years and expands its ability to meet rising community needs. In 2024, St. Augustine Hunger Center served a total of 116,022 meals to individuals and families in need in the community.

Through support from The Sanson Company, the renovation will increase accessibility, enlarge the dining area, and upgrade the kitchen and equipment to improve service capacity. The renovations and relocation are expected to be completed by spring 2026.

“Food insecurity in Cleveland is only getting worse as our community faces the hardships of economic inequality and limited access to healthy food,” said Jim Mullen, president and CEO, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland. “St. Augustine Parish and the hunger center have been essential to our emergency assistance network, and they exemplify the value of seeing every individual in the image and likeness of God. We are honored for the opportunity to help build upon this legacy and strengthen our collective impact.”

The St. Augustine Hunger Center will continue operating in close partnership with St. Augustine Parish, maintaining shared ministry and community relationships. The center’s name and mission will remain unchanged to honor its long history of service and the parish community that built and sustained it.

The new location houses several Catholic Charities programs already serving the Tremont neighborhood, including disability services & ministries, job & career training and, soon, behavioral health services. Placing the hunger center under the same roof will provide clients with seamless access to additional resources beyond meals, including pathways to employment support, disability assistance and other stabilizing services.

The Sanson Company has supported the St. Augustine Hunger Center for many years by supplying food that helps sustain daily meal service. Their investment in this renovation strengthens the center’s capacity to serve the growing number of individuals and families seeking assistance.

“We are proud to support this next chapter for the St. Augustine Hunger Center. Our partnership reflects our belief that every person deserves access to nutritious food and compassionate care,” said Salvatore Zingale, president, The Sanson Company. “This renovation will ensure that the center can continue to serve the community with dignity for decades to come.”
