Prayers and reflections for Catholic Social Teaching Month

Catholic social teaching is a central and essential element of the Catholic faith, and lives at the root of all Catholic Charities’ work.

For all of November, the Diocesan Social Action Office of CCDOCLE will honor Catholic Social Teaching Month. Through weekly reflections and education, CCDOCLE teams, parishioners and communities across the region can better understand how we show up for all of God’s people, especially the poor.

Parishes across the Diocese of Cleveland will distribute this booklet of liturgical resources, and several members of CCDOCLE staff will join the DSAO team for conversation and reflection on each of this year’s themes.

There are seven themes, or tenets, of Catholic social teaching. This year, Catholic social teaching month will highlight the following:

  • Nov. 2 – 8: Rights and responsibilities
    • The Catholic tradition teaches that human dignity can be protected and a healthy community can be achieved only if human rights are protected and responsibilities are met.
    • Week 1 Virtual Presentation: November 3, 2025 | Rights and Responsibilities featuring Catholic Charities Summit County | Tess Flannery, Director
  • Nov. 9 – 15: Call to participation, family and community
    • Our Catholic tradition teaches that human beings grow and achieve fulfillment in community. Excessive individualism, competition and greed work against community and the common good.
    • Week 2 Virtual Presentation: November 10, 2025 | Call to Participation, Family and Community featuring Help Me Grow Home Visiting Program | Brenda Hernandez, Director
  • Nov. 16 – 22: Solidarity
    • We are one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and ideological differences. At the core of the virtue of solidarity is the pursuit of justice and peace.
    • Week 3 Virtual Presentation: November 17, 2025 | Solidarity featuring Immigration Legal Services
  • Nov. 23 – 29: Dignity of the human person
    • The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. This belief is the foundation of all the principles of Catholic social teaching.
    • Week 4 Virtual Presentation: November 25, 2025 | Dignity of the Human Person featuring Bishop Cosgrove Center | Terrel Valentine, Program Coordinator

Materials will be updated on the website throughout November.
