CLEVELAND – September 26, 2025 – Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland, announced today that phase one of their near-term renovation projects is underway to enhance facilities at the Bishop William M. Cosgrove Center, which serves more than 6,000 individuals facing food and housing insecurity annually.
The renovations will focus on upgraded bathroom facilities, expanded entryways and hallways, accessibility features, and metal detectors. To effectively complete these renovations, services on site at the Bishop Cosgrove Center will temporarily pause as of Friday, October 3, 2025, after lunch service. The construction is expected to last a couple of weeks to ensure services for the holidays are uninterrupted.
“This project is an important investment in the future of the Bishop Cosgrove Center,” said Jim Mullen, president & CEO of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland. “While we recognize the inconvenience this temporary pause may cause, these improvements will allow us to reopen stronger, safer and better equipped to serve our community for years to come.”
A partner agency of the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, the Bishop Cosgrove Center serves more than 10,200 hot meals per month, and its pantry program provides nearly 1,100 meals monthly. Bishop Cosgrove Center staff will continue to provide daily hot meals for distribution during the pause at Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry Men’s Shelter (2100 Lakeside Ave.), YWCA Norma Herr Women’s Center (2227 Payne Ave.) and Salvation Army Harbor Light Complex (1710 Prospect Ave.).
Bishop Cosgrove Center’s other essential services, including access to clothing and hygiene items, a food pantry, hot showers, birth certificates and IDs, and emergency financial assistance for rent and utilities, will be accessible via other community partners, and staff will connect clients to these resources when possible. Information about these resources is available at ccdocle.org/cosgrove.
Upon reopening, the Bishop Cosgrove Center will operate with updated facilities and refined service protocols to ensure an even greater impact for the thousands of individuals it serves each year.
“Catholic Charities is grateful for the community’s patience and support during this period of transition, said Fredy Robles, chief program officer, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland. “We look forward to welcoming clients, volunteers and partners back to the Cosgrove Center when doors reopen.”
