To continue the celebration of Women’s History Month, Catholic Charities has another woman to highlight.
Lisa Black serves as General Counsel and has been with the organization for 23 years.
She started her career in journalism, but after three years, she went back to school to get a degree in law.
“I attended and graduated from John Carroll University with the intention of pursuing a career in journalism. After three years in the working world, I decided to change career paths,” Black said.
After attending Cleveland State University (CSU) she began working at the Ohio Attorney General in Columbus and then a mid-size law firm in Cleveland before joining Catholic Charities.
“I became familiar with Catholic Charities through pro bono work as an immigration attorney for the office Migration and Refugee Services (MRS)…” Black said.
During Women’s History Month, Black enjoys reading about impactful women, many of whom the Church recognizes as Saints.
“I enjoy reading stories of brave women, holy women… such as St. Josephine Bakhita and Mother Cabrini,” Black said.
Black also has advice for the young generation of women who may be preparing for the working world.
“Set your goals, study hard, be who you are, get out there and network, and enjoy yourself,” Black said.
Thank you, Lisa, for being an inspiration to so many at Catholic Charities!
