Catholic Charities Corporation Administrative Offices:
7911 Detroit AvenuePurpose Fulfilled
After making a new year’s resolution to try it again, Mary Lou soon found herself with a change of heart. Mary Lou volunteered to serve boxed lunches and was invited to help out with the hot meals program the next day. She attended, and as she says, ‘I was hooked.’. Mary Lou has now been volunteering with the hot meals program for almost two years. “I'm shocked that I'm doing this.” She says, “I absolutely love it. I just never dreamt that I would love it as much as I do”.
In all, Mary Lou has been volunteering with Catholic Charities for over six years in different roles. In 2019, she won the Volunteer of the Year award for her dedication and service. Since retiring, volunteering has given Mary Lou a sense of purpose and something to look forward to.
“I feel really good. I'm really proud of the work that we do. I never thought I would enjoy it, but I do.”
