Catholic Charities Opens St. Augustine Family Center in Tremont, Expanding Access to Food and Family Support Services

Posted May 05, 2026

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland, announces the opening of the St. Augustine Family Center, a newly renovated and expanded space in Tremont that will strengthen access to food, basic needs, and family support services. The community is invited to an open house on May 13, with services officially beginning on May 18. Current meal service at 1400 Howard Ave, Cleveland, OH 44113 will be discontinued on May 6 to allow for a smooth transition and move of operations.

Located at 2346 West 14th Street, one block from its previous site, the St. Augustine Family Center continues more than 50 years of service in Tremont while expanding its capacity to meet growing needs.

“This new space allows us to deepen our commitment to the Tremont community,” said Malorie Phillips, Chief Strategy and External Affairs Officer, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland. “We are not only increasing access to meals and essential services, but we are also creating a place where individuals and families can connect to broader support that helps stabilize and strengthen their lives.”

Expanded impact for the Tremont community

The St. Augustine Family Center increases the organization’s ability to respond to food insecurity and financial instability in the neighborhood by:

  • Expanding the kitchen capacity to serve more meals daily
  • Providing a larger, more welcoming dining space
  • Improving accessibility for individuals and families
  • Connecting clients to additional services in one location

Services available beginning May 18

The St. Augustine Family Center will offer:

  • Two daily hot meals
  • Food pantry services
  • Emergency financial assistance for rent and utilities

In addition, clients will have direct access to other Catholic Charities programs housed at the site, including:

  • Disability Services & Ministries
  • Job & Career Training programs
  • Behavioral Health- Counseling Services

By bringing multiple programs under one roof, the center enables a more coordinated approach to care, helping individuals move from immediate assistance to longer-term stability.

Continuing partnership and community roots

Catholic Charities will continue its partnership with St. Augustine Parish, maintaining the strong community relationship that has defined the hunger center for decades. The new name, St. Augustine Family Center, reflects an expanded mission to serve the whole individual and family while honoring the center’s legacy in Tremont.

Gratitude to community partners

This project was made possible through the support of two generous donors, whose investment helped bring the vision for this expanded center to life.

Open house invitation

Community members, partners, and supporters are invited to attend an Open House on May 13 to tour the new facility, learn more about available services, and celebrate this next chapter for the Tremont Community. To learn more and register for the event, visit www.ccdocle.org/openhouse.
