Catholic Charities welcomes two senior leaders, including former Akron mayor Dan Horrigan

CLEVELAND – August 26, 2025 – Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland (CCDOCLE), has announced two new senior leadership appointments in support of external affairs: Dan Horrigan, senior director of government relations and advocacy, and Becca D’Andrea, senior director of data and strategy.

Horrigan was the mayor of Akron from 2016 through 2023, following 16 years as a city councilman and clerk of Summit County courts. His record of public service, community engagement and strategic advisory made him an ideal candidate for this new position.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dan to Catholic Charities,” said Jim Mullen, president and CEO. “In a rapidly changing political landscape, we must respond to new policies and procedures in ways that ensure our continued service to individuals and families across our Diocese. I know Dan’s efficiency and expertise will benefit the entire organization as he builds strong partnerships and advocates for the invaluable work we do.”

Horrigan assumed his new role on August 25. His responsibilities include shaping and advancing CCDOCLE’s public policy agenda at the local, state and federal levels; serving as a key representative with public officials and stakeholders; and supporting the development of government partnerships that enhance sustainability and impact. He will work in close partnership with Diocesan leadership to ensure alignment with the needs of the Catholic community.

“I am honored and humbled to be part of Catholic Charities’ legacy of healing across all eight counties of the Diocese,” Horrigan said. “I have been blessed with a rewarding civic career, and I look forward to building on my connections and knowledge in support of the thousands of lives touched by Catholic Charities and the Diocese of Cleveland.”

Complementing Horrigan’s responsibilities and supporting the organization’s strategic growth, Becca D’Andrea was promoted to her new position on August 14. As senior director of data and strategy, D’Andrea is responsible for developing and overseeing a comprehensive data strategy that analyzes outcomes across the organization to drive improvements and innovation.

D'Andrea joined Catholic Charities in 2021 as a data analyst on the performance improvement team, and over the last four years she has worked closely with departments across the organization to implement data dashboards to capture outcomes. She holds a master of science in social administration (MSSA) from the Mandel School at Case Western Reserve University.

“With more than a century behind us, Catholic Charities is investing in our leadership team to ensure our compassionate support and service continue for the next hundred years,” said Mullen. “Dan and Becca fill essential roles in this forward progress, helping to pave our strategic path in a way that addresses the vast needs of our communities while remaining steadfast in our mission.”
