Early Learning at Quincy Place: Tai's Story

Watch Tai's Story Here

When Tai first entered her daughters’ future classroom at Catholic Charities Quincy Place Early Learning, she was impressed with how much it felt like an elementary school. She noticed kids’ artwork all over the walls, children listening to stories and playing in the gym.

“This is like a little mini school for the little people,” she remembers thinking. Now, her family has been enrolled for two years. “Every day, I love it.”

Catholic Charities’ Early Learning Programs provide a high-quality, comprehensive approach for children while also making sure families feel supported. A mom of two young girls named Solar and Shien, Tai said she was instantly drawn to Quincy Place. Even from her first phone call, the representatives were welcoming.

Shortly after her oldest enrolled in the program, Tai ran into car trouble and was worried she wouldn’t be able to get her daughter there every day. But the staff at Quincy Place stepped right in.

"They reassured me, like, ‘everything's okay,’" Tai said. They helped link her to transportation options and gave her bus passes to ensure she could still bring her daughter to the program.

“That showed me it’s not just a daycare,” Tai said. “They take that extra step to support you. It showed me immediately that they cared.”

Tai is also impressed with the hands-on approach the teachers take to learning and planning a full curriculum—and she hears all about the day’s lessons from her children. She remembers her older daughter, Solar, doing a pre-K lesson about butterflies.

“She came home talking all about the butterflies, the teachers, everything that happened that day,” Tai said. “What they do in the classroom, my kids bring back home and they want to build on that.”

Tai said the early learning program at Quincy Place allows her children to be themselves while challenging their minds.

The teachers in the early learning programs aim to prepare their students for kindergarten and the rest of their school years, and to do this, they set learning and developmental goals for each child. Tai was surprised to learn they even held conferences between parents and teachers.

"They have actual objectives, goals to reach," Tai said. "They take the time to check back in: ‘Do you feel like we reached this goal?’ It helps us know they’re really there for you, really there for your children.”

Tai said she appreciates how much the teachers and staff at Quincy Place have made her feel supported and confident as a parent. "They're on a mission, and they want to reach that goal. That means a lot to me." Tai said.

Finding a daycare that supports your family does not need to be difficult. Catholic Charities' early learning program can help ease the process.
