Our Ashland County office recently received a $2155.00 donation from Armstrong Cable!
Every year Armstrong Cable hosts an event called “Antlers & Anglers”, a two-day event that brings over 1,000 people into Ashland each year. The money raised from this event goes to a local non-profit and this year they chose Catholic Charities in Ashland County.
When asked how they decided the recipient for this year, Sandy Burkholder from Armstrong Cable said, “You [Catholic Charities] have so much to offer for the community and do so many wonderful things it just seemed like you were the best fit,”
Armstrong Cable hosts its “Antlers & Anglers” event every year at the Ashland County Fairgrounds where there is something for people of all ages.
“Our event is anything to do with the outdoors; Fishing, hiking, biking, hunting, wildlife cooking demonstrations, kids fishing pond, wood projects, archery, and more,” Sandy said.
This generous donation from Armstrong Cable will help Ashland County keep up with its food shelf.
Ashland started providing a place for people to come and grab whatever they needed to get by for the day. The food shelf is open to everyone, not just clients.
“One of our therapists wanted to be able to provide tangible needs of the people we serve and also the community.” Director of Ashland and Wayne Counties, Sheryl Villages said.
Although other places in the community offer the same assistance, the Ashland County office just wanted to be another place people can benefit from.
“We wanted to be another source… especially for those we serve,” Sheryl said.
The Ashland office gets many donations from employees, volunteers, and even people in the community.
“We get many donations from the community on a regular basis including St. Edward Catholic Church, St. Edward School, First Church of the Brethren, Knights of Columbus… We have a woman that has been donating eggs from her chickens for many years – I know that I am missing many!” Sheryl said.
Ashland plans to use the donation money to maintain what they are currently doing for the people in the community.
“Some [people] have been living in their cars, some grandmothers who just got custody of grandchildren, people who lost jobs – we especially see an uptick in the summer months when kids are on summer vacation from school… we would like to maintain what we are doing,” Sheryl said.
Thank you Armstrong Cable for choosing Catholic Charities as the beneficiary of the proceeds from the “Antlers and Anglers” event. This will help many people who access our food shelf!
