The Fatima Family Center has been serving those in the Hough community for 50 years by providing programs for all ages.
Silver Threads is a weekly program that provides socialization and supportive services for seniors ages 55 and up.
Gloria is a participant in the Silver Threads program and has been coming to the center for over four years.
Before Gloria came to Fatima, she was a participant in two other centers. Unfortunately, both of those centers closed down.
When at the library one day, a lady recommended Gloria try Fatima to see if she liked it.
“She said, ‘You should try Fatima. It’s on Lexington,’ and that’s how I became to come. I come from Twinsburg [now],” Gloria said.
Not only do the seniors get to socialize with people around their age, but they also get to interact with the younger generation.
“The kids come every summer and when school is out and it gives you something to do,” Gloria said.
The main thing that makes the Fatima Center different from others is how close everyone is.
Gloria mentions how Fatima was there for her after the passing of her brother.
“Fatima was absolutely wonderful to me, and I hadn’t been here that long then.” Gloria said, “It’s just so wonderful how people – they just gather around you and you know they’re there for you.”
Staff and other participants would call, come by, send cards and flowers, and more to Gloria during her loss to show their support for her.
“I just love coming here. It makes my day… we have fun just being together,” Gloria said, “Everybody looks so forward to coming to Fatima.”
