Lent: a time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving in preparation for the Easter feast.
While Lent requires sacrifices, it is not meant to be a time of misery. Lent is supposed to help heal our bodies, minds, and souls as it prompts us to focus even more on the Lord, the only One who can truly fulfill and free us. When we pray, fast, and give alms, Jesus calls us to do so with an energetic and loving spirit (“When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. - Matthew 6:16). May this Lent be a time to practice offering ALL—the ups and the downs—to the Lord with a spirit of surrender and trust. Jesus loves us more than anyone else. He died for YOU! When we give Him our whole selves, we give Him the ability to transform us in ways we could not have imagined.
In honor of this Lenten season, we decided to compile some ideas and resources for kids (or really, anyone! ) to help them learn how to better serve others and grow closer to Christ. Below is a downloadable PDF with 20 items that we challenge participants to complete this Lent, no matter what order you do them in!
We would love to accompany you or your child on this challenge! Feel free to send us progress photos and let us know how the challenge is going at advancement@ccdocle.org. You can also tag us on social media at @ccdocle.
