Earlier this week, Catholic Charities announced Mary P. von Carlowitz as the new director of The Office for Human Life.
This appointment comes after Peggy Gerovac's retirement in 2020.
"I am so incredibly humbled to be able to accept a position as significant as working to defend human life," von Carlowitz said.
In her new position, von Carlowitz will develop and coordinate programs and activities that support a consistent life ethic. She'll also work with parishes and organizations on public policy efforts related to human life.
"We are all, always called to champion the most primal and fundamental of rights – the foundation that presages all other personal rights – the right to life," von Carlowitz said.
Von Carlowitz comes to Catholic Charities after serving as co-director of faith formation at Church of the Gesu in University Heights.
She holds a master's degree in theology from Saint Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology in Wickliffe, as well as a bachelor's in diplomacy, foreign affairs and history.
