Site Director, Camp Happiness Wickliffe

Middle school teacher Kate has spent nearly every summer since 2015 working at Catholic Charities’ Camp Happiness, a summer camp for children and young adults with disabilities.

"I took one summer off, and I really, really missed camp," says Kate, who serves as site director for the camp’s Wickliffe location.

During the six week camp, children have the opportunity to create artwork, experience music therapy, attend field trips and even go swimming.

Kate says her goal is not only that campers have a good time, but that "they feel like they belong and are accepted in a place where they can have fun and be themselves."

And that goal is what keeps her coming back each year.

"It's just so rewarding," Kate says. "Some days you're exhausted but you know you're making a difference. And when you see kids smile and laugh and have a good time, and know that they're accepted and loved here, that's all the difference in the world."
